Just one dose of Prevnar 20 helps protect against 20 strains of the bacteria that cause pneumococcal pneumonia—which can strike anytime, anywhere.
Compared to Prevnar 13Ⓡ, Prevnar 20 helps protect against:
Prevnar 20 won’t give you pneumococcal pneumonia.
That’s because Prevnar 20 does not contain live bacteria.
Prevnar 20 is designed to protect against pneumococcal pneumonia and invasive pneumococcal disease.
There are two types of pneumococcal vaccines—polysaccharides and conjugates. Prevnar 20 is a conjugate vaccine. Conjugate vaccines work by combining proteins with small pieces of inactive pneumococcal bacteria to help activate the immune system. Your body is able to recognize the bacteria without getting you sick. This process helps your immune system make antibodies that can help protect you from 20 strains of the bacteria that cause pneumococcal pneumonia and invasive pneumococcal disease, like meningitis or blood infection.
Is Prevnar 20 right for me?
You may already be doing a lot to protect your health, and here's a way to do even more.
If you’re 65 or older, or 19 or older with certain chronic conditions, you may be at greater risk for pneumococcal pneumonia—even if you feel healthy. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist to better understand your risk and ask if Prevnar 20 is right for you.
Prevnar 20 was studied in adults with chronic conditions including diabetes, kidney disorders, lung disease, liver disease, and heart disease.
What if I’ve previously received another pneumonia vaccine?
Even if you’ve already been vaccinated with another pneumonia vaccine, ask your doctor or pharmacist if Prevnar 20 could help provide additional protection.
Prevnar vaccines have been used by millions and millions of adults in the US for over 10 years* with a demonstrated safety profile.
